AUGUST 30, 2016, PH – The 17th Congress has elected Hon. Maximo “Maxie” B. Rodriguez of the 2nd District of Cagayan de Oro City, as the chairman for the Committee on Mindanao Affairs. Cong. Maxie has been a member of the Centrist Democratic Party of the Philippines (CDP) since 2014.

The plan of the said Committee is focused on increasing budgetary allocation for Mindanao to implement projects on poverty alleviation, responsible utilization and harnessing of natural wealth, developmental corridors, increased developmental projects and a lasting inclusive peace and stability.

At present, the Committee is coordinating with various national agencies, local government units, civil societies and the academe in bringing to their attention the plight of its constituents.

The Committee has an authorized membership of sixty (60) members but as a matter of Committee policy, regardless of the number of members manifested on the floor, all Mindanao Congressmen including party list members from the region are invited, consulted and made part of any Committee activity.

The Committee can conduct official business with the vote of 1/5 of its members constituting a quorum.

The term of office of the Chairman is three (3) years or unless there is a reorganization of the House to which another congressman will be elected to head the post.

As per Rule IX, Section 28, paragraph (gg) of the House Rules, the mandate of the committee is to act on all matters directly and principally relating to the development of Mindanao, including the preparation of a comprehensive and integrated plan for Mindanao.
