Upon the ouster of Estrada in 2001, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo (GMA) assumed power. Earlier when she became vice president in 1998, her personal party Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino(KAMPI) signed a covenant with the Lakas-NUCD-CMD.Like the FVR presidency, GMA’s was technically a Christian Democratic government. Essentially,her Christian Democratic values were enshrined in her regime’s core beliefs:
Our national objective should be the elimination of poverty within this decade;
We need to improve moral standards in government and in society, in order to provide a foundation for good governance;
We need to replace our politics of personality and patronage with new politics of party programs and process of consultation, in order to provide a foundation for true reforms; and
Leadership by example that not only talks about Christian values, but also lives them.
In her decade-long stint as President she failed to carry these concepts through. She was arrested in the later part of 2012 electoral sabotage.
