On the 7th of April 2018, the Centrist Democratic Party of the Philippines (CDP) conducted its 9th National Congress at Pearlmont Inn, Cagayan de Oro City.

The event was attended by the members of local chapters from different parts of the country, namely the National Capital Region, Baguio City, Cebu City, Cebu Province, General Santos City, Davao City, Tagum City, Lugait, with the Cagayan de Oro City chapter as the host of the said event.

Atty. Rufus B. Rodriguez, the re-elected president of the Centrist Democratic Party of the Philippines, spoke about the importance of political parties and their roles in the government. He also cited the experience of other countries. As the main agenda during this Congress, he presided over the discussions on the resolutions proposed during the 12th National Council Meeting that was held a day earlier and later passed through motions and seconds from the party’s chapter delegates.

The congress’ keynote speaker, Secretary Delfin N. Lorenzana, talked about the successes and improvements of the Department of National Defense under the current administration, specifically in its modernization program. He also talked about the importance of a mature political party that has a solid ideology, a firm stand on every national and local issue and also the willingness to be a beacon of social change for the society, citing CDP as his prime model. He also stated that “The CDP should continue with its grassroots building, kasi alternative motive ‘to eh.” In his closing statement, Secretary Lorenzana said that “You can serve your nation by being good citizens. Follow the laws, the rules, render service to your community and pay your taxes.”

Towards the end of the congress, Mr. Lito Monico Lorenzana, Chairman Emeritus of the CDP, addressed the party with an inspirational and awe-inspiring speech, saying that “[W]e will continue to ensure that we are sufficiently armed with the ideological messaging and continue to conduct political education to new recruits.” He also had the honors of inducting the newly-elected set of officers of the CDP.
